What is a vulcanized rubber mold?
A vulcanized rubber mold is a production tool that allows you to reproduce an identical jewelry piece dozens, hundreds or thousands of times with high fidelity to the original model. The vulcanization process involves compressing raw rubber around the metal model with controlled heat and pressure — typically between 150°C and 180°C.
Types of rubber: which to choose?
Traditional vulcanized rubber (caucho): greater durability, supports 800 to 2,000 injection cycles, ideal for continuous production. Room temperature silicone (RTV): cold vulcanization, compatible with any material, lower durability (300-600 injections), ideal for complex geometries. High-temperature silicone: the most balanced professional option.
When is the investment worthwhile?
The mold pays for itself when you intend to produce the same piece more than 15 to 20 times. Beyond that, the mold drastically reduces unit cost and guarantees quality consistency.
