Why STL file quality matters
A poorly designed STL file can result in pieces with casting defects, inadequate wall thickness or geometries that trap gas. Before investing, evaluate these 7 criteria:
1. Minimum wall thickness: 0.8mm for direct casting, 1.2mm for rubber mold. 2. No closed geometries without ventilation channel. 3. Suitability for the casting process — a decorative STL is not the same as one designed for jewelry. 4. Surface resolution and smoothness — minimum 100,000 triangles. 5. Compatibility with resin printers — ChituBox, Lychee, PreForm. 6. Correct aesthetic and ergonomic proportions. 7. Technical support from the supplier.
