1. Minimum wall thickness
Parts with very thin walls break during printing or do not withstand the casting process. For gold and silver jewelry, the recommended minimum thickness is 0.8 mm to 1.2 mm, depending on the geometry. Verify that the file was designed with these specifications.
2. Absence of enclosed geometries with no escape
Totally enclosed cavities create gas pockets during casting, causing porosity and defects in the part. Professional designs always include ventilation channels or are designed to avoid this problem.
3. Suitability for the casting process
There is a difference between an STL file for decorative FDM printing and a file designed for jewelry casting. The latter takes into account metal shrinkage, draft angles, and correct positioning for the casting tree.
4. Resolution and surface smoothness
Files with low mesh resolution generate faceted surfaces—with visible planes instead of smooth curves. A quality surface should have between 100,000 and 500,000 triangles for fine jewelry pieces.
5. Compatibility with resin printers
Check if the file is in the correct scale and compatible with the most widely used slicers (ChituBox, Lychee Slicer, PreForm). Good suppliers specify the recommended printing parameters.
6. Aesthetic and ergonomic proportions
In addition to technical criteria, the design must have correct aesthetic proportions—ring sizes compatible with Brazilian and European commercial sizes, profile height suitable for wear, and aesthetics aligned with the target audience.
